Front Cover Images

These are my four favourite images that may be used in the front page of my magazine. The pose and composition fits in with my original page layout plan.

Front Cover Production

Here I have started to add the real elements of my plan. Features such as a coloured logo, artist name and description have been added with matching colours and 3D effect to help them look more appealing on the magazine shelf. I have included this colour scheme in the bubble at the top left that reads 'Indie Special.' The Barcode was found on Google Images, and I added a price in simple font so that it is easy to read. This feature was present in all the magazines I researched. I also designated the areas for text as they were on my plan. I omitted the bar at the top of the page as I feel that I can incorporate the information that would have been put there more seamlessley into the page.

Here I have implemented the text on the right side and the bottom of the page. These are the main stories eatured in the magazine, and having them on the front page will let people know some of the magazine's contents before opening it.

This is the information that would have been put in a bar at the top of the page. I think this design feels more natural. With the text being put around the logo, it draws attention to the information more effectively.
This si the completed front cover. I added a small 'WIN!' bubble to draw attention to the fact that there is  competition in my magazine. I have learned from my research that this is usual for magazines as it hepls to persuade the reader to buy it.

Contents Page Production

Here I have created the basic layout of my contents page. I used minimalistic blue lines to separate the different sections of the text. I left a section on the left open for pictures. I gave the background a similar brown look to the background of my front cover picture. I gave it a stained look as a stylistic choice to make it look vintage, which may appeal to my target audience of teens because of them being more conscious of this look.
Here I have added the text that makes up the actual content of the magazine. I was careful not to repeat numbers, and left some numbers unmentioned as they will be filled by advertising. I chose to do this all the magazines I researched also did this. I put the numbers in a different colour so that they would be easier to see. I added an editor's note to fill up the the space left at the bottom.
Here I have added the pictures into the left hand side. I used the blue lines to link the pictures to the page numbers that they relate to as this makes the articles they relate to easier to find.

Front Cover Image Edit

This is my front cover image that I chose, before and after editing. I used the spot healing tool to erase blemishes on the skin, and used the levels and contrast tools to make the image appear more light and colourful. I went over the white of my model's eye with a translucent white brush to make it look more striking, as eye contact with the camera means the image is more powerful.

I then inserted the edited image into my layout plan, and am very pleased with what the result is starting to look like.

Double Page Spread Production

This is my final image that I have chosen for my double page spread. I will use it as a template and will place the text around it. I have also added a title and some dividing lines.
Here I have added the bulk of the text of the interview on the lower right hand side of the page. I have also added a QR code that can be scanned to provide a link to the magazine's website.

Demonstration of QR code Here!

This is the complete double page spread. I included a picture I created of the artist's CD cover and a small description next to it.
